DESAULT (P.J.) - BICHAT (Xavier). Surgical works of P.J. DESAULT. Third edition, revised, corrected and enlarged. With figures. Desault was a great French surgeon, one of the first professors at the Ecole pratique de chirurgie. He made many suggestions concerning the treatment of fractures and dislocations and is one of the founders of modern vascular surgery. He was Xavier Bichat's teacher. Desault developed the technique of ligation of blood vessels for the treatment of aneurysms. With Chopart, Desault founded urological surgery and was one of the first to have a clear understanding of urological disease.
