BRIDAULT (Ami-Félix). Treatise on the carrot, and collection of observations on the use and salutary effects of this plant, in external and internal diseases. La Rochelle, J. F. Lhomandie, [1802], 8°, [4]-frontispice engraved-XXII-431 p., full blond calf, smooth spine decorated with gold flowers, bookplate (internal hinge split, first 3 pages detached). Copy signed by the author under the notice of the publisher. Rare first edition of this curious work published by subscription. The Treatise includes a theoretical part, 170 cases or clinical observations, and finally 60 supporting documents. The approach is rigorous and scientific. The work is dedicated to "the poor and the inhabitants of the countryside"; the carrot being a simple, easy to use and inexpensive treatment. Ami-Félix Bridault is pleased to have converted to the use of this remedy doctors and surgeons, some of whom were initially very incredulous and who later sent him their own observations.
