BETHIZY (de). Exposition of the theory and practice of music, according to the new discoveries. Second edition corrected and increased by the author. Paris, F.G. Deschamps, 1764, in-8, XVI-331-(4)-1 bl. p., and 60 engraved music plates, full contemporary brown calf, decorated spine (missing at the bottom of the spine). A good copy. Jean-Laurent de Béthisy (Dijon 1709 - Paris, 1781) was a master of music in Paris where he composed an Ode sur la campagne du prince de Conti, in Italian, and the music for the Enlèvement d'Europe; he also published a refutation of Rousseau's speech on the origin of inequality.
