Thomas Bartholin (Copenhagen, 1616-1680) was a Danish physician, mathematician and theologian. Through his research on the lymphatic system, he occupies an important place in the history of anatomy. In 1637, in Leiden, he turned definitively to medicine. He studied mainly the lymphatic vessels (discovered by Gaspare Aselli) and Harvey's theory of blood circulation. In the expanded edition of his father's anatomy manual, Thomas Bartholin gives a place to these discoveries.
