Ecole du XIXème siècle, d'après Simon VOUET (1590-1649) The death of Dido. Oil on canvas. 116 x 99 cm. Tears, uprisings, missing parts, soiled canvas. Wooden frame and gilded plaster decorated with foliage scrolls (missing). The original composition, circa 1640-42 is kept in the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Dole. Dido, queen of Carthage, broken lover abandoned by Aeneas, kills herself when she leaves [Virgil, field IV of the Aeneid].
