Superb edition, illustrated with a portrait of Pope Pius IX, 58 chromolithograph plates, an engraved figure after Fossey, and 4 frontispieces. The chromolithograph plates reproduce miniatures painted by Jean Foucquet, in particular for the Hours of Estienne Chevalier: this manuscript, executed around 1450, marks a turning point in the history of French illumination and is one of Foucquet's artistic peaks. Edition of 550 copies. Binding by David decorated in the Renaissance style.
