[DILHERR]. Collection of Christian Emblems. [NÛrnberg, J.A. Enstern, 1661-1663]. In-8 oblong, tobacco cloth (19th century binding) Album of 142 copper-engraved emblems (ca. 117 x 148), collected in the 19th century by an iconophile, glued on strong paper mounted on tabs. The figures, drawn by Georg Strauch and engraved by Melchior Kussell, come from two different collections, both composed by Johann Michael Dilherr. 1 - Augen-und Hertzens-Lust ... (1661, 35 plates from our album). 2 - Heilig-Epistolischer Bericht, Licht, Geleit und Freud ... (1663, 72 plates of our album). The remaining 35 figures, unsigned but by the same hand, belong to one or the other of the two works. Praz, Studies in seventeenth century imagery, Roma, 1964, p. 316. Landwehr, 227 and 228. Nice set: the proofs of a very fine edition. Hinge of the first cover cracked, but the work remains very solid.
