Jambiyya dagger, Ottoman Empire, early 19th century
Curved double-edged blade with a central edge, made of steel, the heel inlaid with gold on both sides drawing two cartouches decorated with foliage and palmettes on one side, calligraphy on a starry background on the other side giving a Quranic formula in Arabic (Koran, LXI, 13-14). Curved steel handle entirely inlaid with gold of a dense vegetal network. Scabbard covered with black textile with central braid of braided metal threads.
