Gold inlaid steel paper-knife, Iran qâjâr, 19th century
Paper-knife all in steel inlaid with gold. The blade is flat with a double edge and a rounded end, the handle is continuous with a triangular end. The handle is decorated with predominantly plant motifs and medallions on the blade, the central medallion containing on each side poetic inscriptions about the blade in Persian nasta'liq. The whole surrounded by a frieze of interlacing.
