DJED PILLAR Bronze with dark green patina H. 19 cm Egypt, Late Period, 664-525 B.C. Provenance Former Hugo Johanne collection, Belgium, 1956 For a similar iconography Earthenware djed pillar with atef crown, Musée du Louvre, n°4544 This pillar in the form of a shattered trunk symbolizes the spine of Osiris and in this case, surmounted by the atef crown. It is used as a ritual object in the mysteries of the God of the Dead. In a funerary context, the djed pillar protected the deceased in the Amdouat. Very beautiful conservation. An Egyptian Late Period bronze djed-pillar with atef crown. Ca 664-525 B.C. This pillar which symbolized the backbone of Osiris, is surmounted by the atef crown. Served as a ritual object during the mysteries of the god of the dead. In a funerary context, it would have protected the deceased in the life in the Hereafter.
