Tent of Holofernes housing his decapitated body in carved boxwood. Placed on a two-step platform, the tent with open curtains has a canopy in the form of a pointed dome crowned with a flowery button and bordered by a scalloped and fringed slope. Nice patina.
Southern Germany, Leonard Kern's circle, middle of the XVIIth century
Total height : 24 cm
This is a very original work by an artist with a strong personality. The muscularity of the arm and the treatment of the torso remind us of Kern's style as well as the theatrical aspect of the composition devoid of superfluous details. The use of high quality boxwood and its warm patina can also be found in the groups attributed to the great German sculptor from Schwäbisch Hall.
