A student at the École des arts industriels at the same time as his contemporaries Édouard Vallet and Jules Fontanez, Henri-Claudius Forestier was a student of Alfred Martin. In Paris, he worked at the Tynaire studio for many illustrators, including his compatriot Louis Dunki. He was the first true Swiss poster artist working in the Art Nouveau style. In 1910, his reputation having been established, he produced a poster for the famous cabaret singer Yvette Guilbert, at her request.
