Pierre Nicolas HUILLIOT (1674-1751) Fruit buffet and garlands of flowers Canvas mounted on panel 206,5 x 60 cm (Old restorations) Provenance: Swedish collection before 1960 (according to the 1984 sale catalog). Sale Sotheby's Monaco, March 5, 1984, n°1052. Coming from a dynasty of Parisian painters, our painter was admitted to the Royal Academy with a large-format buffet of flowers and fruits in 1722. He exhibited at its salons from 1737 to 1750. His maternal grandfather had worked for Louis XIV and Anne of Austria and his father, Claude Huilliot, had collaborated with Monnoyer in the decoration of the castles of Versailles, Saint-Germain, Marly and Fontainebleau. Great sumptuous works, the still lifes of Huilliot are richly colored and present a virtuosity in the representation of virtuosity in the representation of materials. Flowers, fruits and silverware figure prominently in his paintings, as do curtains, textiles and architectural decorations. They are the link between the baroque paintings of the Louis XIV period and the more decorative and decorative and fanciful paintings of the Rocaille period.
