This large allegorical statue belongs to the corpus of polychrome sculptures from the 1840s-1910s recently brought to light by major European institutions - the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds and the
Amsterdam, the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds and the Musée d "Orsay in Paris.
Like Théodore Rivière (1857-1912) and Gustave Deloye (1838-1899), the artist here plays on the contrasts between the materials to bring out the diaphanous color of the marbled flesh in the dark folds of the garments treated in bronze (fig. 1 and 2). Her attribute, a large vase, is also in marble.
