[COECKELBERGH (Family)] Genealogy of the ancient noble and chivalrous family of van Coeckelberghe In Latin, Flemish and French, calligraphic and illuminated manuscript on parchment Belgium, Brussels, 1786-1791 With various drawings, coats of arms, gouache or watercolor sigillographic records Strong volume, small folio, [4] - 662 pp. preceded and followed by two parchment endpapers, fine calligraphic writing of great regularity and elegance, several writing modules, brown ink, several paper stamps with paper cut-outs (very nice example p. 262), parchment stamped and stamped (dates 1786-1791), on the front of the second parchment endpaper: "No. 37 de l'Inventaire". Size of leaves: 240 x 340 mm; size of binding: 250 x 355 mm. Finely executed illuminated title-frontispiece, architectural and heraldic compositions; numerous drawings of coats of arms and crests, illuminated or with an intext pen; drawings of architectural elevations of buildings related to the family (p. 93: Ick Oudergeteekenden notaris...); large heraldic mosaic composition: "Le Noble Brabant faithful" with the note: "This copy collated in the presence and with the requisition of Messire J.J.K. Van Coeckelberghe"; several drawings of ancient seals enhanced with gouache or watercolor (e.g. pp. 134, 137, 146, 152, 154, 158, 162, 171 and passim); heraldic genealogical trees (e.g. p. 185, p. 189, pp. 487-488); projects of stele or tombstone (p. 533; p. 581). Bound in cherry red morocco, spine with 5 nerves partitioned and decorated with flowers (gilded vase motif repeated in the inter-nerve spaces), large gilded decoration on the boards, composed of a lacy frieze and a baroque gilded lace, four gilded vases on the inner corners, central motif in small irons with repeated gilt vase in the center, gilt decoration on the edges, bookseller "s label pasted on the bottom of the upper counterguard "Librairie Tulkens, 21 rue du Chêne, Bruxelles", marbled paper endpapers and backpapers, gilt edges (Spiders, spines and backs rubbed; lower spine cap fragile; some scattered foxing (for example, pp. 560-561; pp. 600-601; pp. 614-615; pp. 624-625); first 4 leaves detached from the seam). An impressive genealogical, heraldic and historical sum devoted to the van Coeckelberghe family, drawing on a number of scattered sources from the Brabant Archives, the heraldic chamber of of His Majesty, the Abbey of Diligem, and several other repositories. The family owned considerable property in Flanders and Brabant and was one of the main founders of the Abbey of Diligem near Brussels. The book is illustrated with a great variety of drawings, sigillographic records, coats of arms and genealogical trees with arms: it is calligraphed in a very neat and regular way, giving the whole an appearance worthy of an important and ancient family. One reads p. 651: "Those of the heraldic chamber of His Majesty the Emperor and the Apostolic King in the Païs Low and Circle of Burgundy. Having in communication of the present Genealogy of the very old and illustrious family of Van Coeckelberghe as well as the Applicat which accompanies it declared and certified, as they declare and certify by these presents, that the aforementioned Genealogy and the aforementioned Applicat are well and faithfully drawn up in accordance with the Titles, Charters and other original and authentic proofs which were produced to them by Sir Jean Joseph Robert van Coeckelberghe...". The genealogies and transcriptions have been approved and authenticated, as for example the beautiful genealogy with arms (pp. 481- 482) : " We undersigned lord of Lodelinsart and Castillon, adviser of the Emperor and King, exercising the state of first King of Arms in the Low Countries and Burgundy; and André-François Jaerens ex King and ordinary herald of Arms of His Imperial and catholic Majesty... we present and to come certify and attest to have seen and visited this present filiation... ". (p. 482).
