The Rym de Bellem family is an important patrician family of Ghent, very old (we go back to the crusader Baudouin de Rym in the 12th century).
It gave several notables, magistrates and aldermen of Ghent. The arms of Rym are : Or with a lioness lion of Gules, armed, lampassed and crowned of azure.
Among the notables in the 16th and 17th centuries, let us quote Charles Rym (died in 1583), lord of Bellem, ambassador of the emperor Maximilian II to the Sublime Porte.
See Herckenrode (Baron), Nobiliaire des Pays-Bas et du Comté de Bourgogne, Ghent, 1865, pp. 1709- 1710: "Rym".
