Bound in full modern cardboard, smooth spine, piece glued on the upper counterpart: "Armoirie et esscusson". Good general condition, but a few leaves with holes (acid ink), especially fol. 1 (numbered 7), a few pen tests, some stains. Size of leaves: 168 x 233 mm; size of binding: 171 x 236 mm This manuscript contains painted and captioned coats of arms of great dignitaries and sovereigns of Europe and France. The compositions are based on the illustrations of the works of Claude-Oronce Finé de Brianville (1608-1676). One can consult the work entitled Jeu d "armoiries de l "Europe pour apprendre le blason, la géographie et l'histoire curieuse, Lyon, Benoist Coral, 1659 (Saffroy no. 2158); see also Jeu d "armoiries des souverains et états d "Europe (see Saffroy, no. 2157), digitized copy BnF (Dept. Estampes, RESERVE BOITE FOL-KH-381 (3, 53). Several drawings of coats of arms take up the coats of arms and texts of these maps, but not all of them are represented or there are in the present manuscript choices of coats of arms which do not appear in the work of Finé de Brianville. Claude-Oronce Finé de Brianville was a Jesuit teacher from Lyon who contributed to the diffusion of heraldic goose games. In his paper [Société des antiquaires de France, Séance 19 janvier 2000], P. Palasi recalls this correspondence between Finé de Brianville and Samuel Guichenon: "I have undertaken to put into a game of cards all the coats of arms of the Princes of Europe and of the considerable States...". His coat of arms game will know twelve editions and if we believe the present work, handwritten copies and enhanced with colors. See : Saffroy, n° 2158 and n°2159.
