PERIOD OF THE COMBATTING KINGDOMS (IVth CENTURY) BC J.C.) OR LATER Wooden statuette of a deer with remnants of polychromy on its back, depicted lying down with its legs tucked under its body and its head turned to the right. H. 77.5 cm - L. 58 cm (Restorations, wear and small chips near the antlers) PROVENANCE - Wah Kee Works of Art, Hong Kong (2000) - Private collection, France (acquired from the latter and then by descent) NOTE An analysis conducted on the work in 2001 by the Centre de datation par le radiocarbone de l'Université Claude Bernard indicates that "The radiocarbon content of the wood extracted from the buck sculpture shows that this wood grew between the 28th and 25th CENTURIES before now, which allows us to assume that a statuette carved from this wood may be ancient."
