A TURKOMAN PRISONER, PERSIA SAFAVID STYLE 19TH CENTURY
Gouache colour heightened with gold on paper, depicitng a Turkoman prisoner, armed with a dagger, sword, bow, arrows and mace of the prisoners in earlier versions. At the top a line in large black nastali'q script, all ruled in gold and polychrome borders.
Painting size: 9 by 17 cm.
Catalogue note:
During the safavid era numerous paintings and drawings of a Turkoman prisoner with his hand and head in a type of stock, known as a 'palahang', were produced from the early 16th to the early 17th century.
