CLERMONT (Marie-Anne de Bourbon-Condé, known as Mademoiselle de). Manuscript entitled " Recueil concernant le voyage de S.A.S. Mademoiselle de Clermont, allant chercher la Reine à Strasbourg. July 25, 1725". [1726 or shortly after]. In-4, (2)-73 pp, black morocco, spine with mute nerves, partitions and fleurons, boards decorated with a gilt framing variation (mixing gilt fillets and rat's teeth), gilt edges, inner gilt roulette, gilt edges, polychrome gilt-embossed paper endpapers with floral motifs (period binding). (contemporary binding). MADEMOISELLE DE CLERMONT, SUPERINTENDENT OF THE QUEEN'S HOUSEHOLD. Fourth daughter of Louis III de Bourbon-Condé and Louise-Françoise de Bourbon (Mademoiselle de Nantes), Marie-Anne de Bourbon-Condé (1697-1741) was appointed on April 27, 1725 as superintendent of the House of the Queen, the young Marie Leszczynska, through the intermediary of her brother Louis IV de Bourbon-Condé (1692-1740), then Louis XV's chief minister, who had negotiated the King's marriage to this Polish princess. In this capacity, Melle de Clermont led the King's household from Paris to Strasbourg, to welcome the young Queen, to assist her in the proxy ceremonies that took place in the cathedral of Strasbourg, to bring her back to Fontainebleau and to assist her until the ceremony of September 5, 1725. Following this first mission, successful to the satisfaction of both her brother and the Cardinal de Fleury, Mademoiselle de Clermont kept her office with the Queen until her death. VADEMECUM PROTOCOLAIRE UNDOUBTEDLY ESTABLISHED HAS THE USE OF MADEMOISELLE DE CLERMONT HERSELF. It includes 1. the itinerary of Mademoiselle de Clermont, from Paris to Strasbourg from July 25 to August 13, 1725, then from Strasbourg to Fontainebleau from August 16 to September 5, 1725 (pp. 1-2) - 2. the royal regulation of 27 April 1725 instituting Mademoiselle de Clermont as superintendent (pp. 3-6). - 3. a memorandum on the rights and duties of the superintendent (pp. 6-18). - 4. the rules to be observed during the trip to Strasbourg (pp. 19-30). - 5. The king's letters of provision for the office of superintendent (pp. 31-36). 6. A memoir by the king on the role of the superintendent with the queen until the wedding (pp. 36-47). - 7. a memoir of the king on the functions of the duchess of Boufflers as lady-in-waiting of the queen, substitute of the superintendent (pp. 47-56). - 8. answers to questions from Mademoiselle de Clermont on particular points of etiquette, notably by the count of Maurepas, secretary of state of the king's household (pp. 57-62). - 9. a regulation on the functions of the officers of the queen's chamber (pp. 63-69). - 10 Finally, several other correspondences relating to etiquette (pp. 69-72). An addition by another hand dictates the etiquette to be observed for the visit to Marie Leszczynska, on March 31, 1726, of the queen of Spain, Louise-Élisabeth d'Orléans (1709-1742), widow of king Louis I who died in 1724.) to Marie. Very nice copy decorated with exceptional gilt paper endpapers with floral pattern.
