History
This pair of plates is probably a later addition to the original service produced by the Gardner factory commissioned by Catherine II as a gift to Count Ilya Andreevich Bezborodko in 1784. During the reign of Tsar Alexander II, a restocking of this service was ordered, of which our two pieces are part.
Ilya Bezborodko was a Russian senator and general who participated in the Russo-Turkish wars, he was the younger brother of Alexander Bezborodko, one of the great statesmen of Catherine II and the main architects of her foreign policy.
