Verdi's opera was narrated by the English actor Christopher LEE, while the puppets moved according to the described scenario, on the orchestral music recorded for the occasion without text nor sung parts. The faces of the men were inspired by Daumier's portraits of parliamentarians. The women's faces and their costumes are inspired by the German painter Winteralther. The faces and hands are made of epoxy resin and polyester, molded from a clay model. The women's hair is made of dyed hemp. The men's hairstyles are part of the shaped head, like Daumier's Parliamentarians
