Tapa (bark raffia), French Polynesia, Futuna Island. Plant fibers (bast strips) of the mulberry tree are watered, beaten and felted into an extremely soft fabric. Traditionally used for clothing, still used today for festive occasions such as weddings and the like. Traditionally painted in geometric pattern. Approx. 242 x 332 cm.
