NEPAL - MALLA PERIOD (ca 1201 - 1779) quite exceptional "Pariksha" (46 x 72.5 cm) in gilded copper with the images of the five Dhyani Buddhas ( Vairochana, Akshobya, Ratna Sambhava, Amithabha and Amoghasiddhi,) in repoussé technique. Parikshas were placed for decoration over temple doors mainly in the Kathmandu Valley by the Newari. The Newari followed a distinct non-monastic form of Mahayana Buddhism, and had their own caste system.
