A couple of naked children pretend to pick the tulips that escape from the vases on top of the columns. They climb onto the base and cling to the garlands wrapped around the white marble shafts. The subject is reminiscent of the figure girandoles mentioned in the diary books of the great bronziers of the end of the century. Our pair of girandoles is characterized by the abundance of its arabesque branches which gives it an exotic tone, as if our two wild children were trying to shake a tree to make the fruits fall...
