PAIR OF COMMODES Italy - second half of the 18th century Rosewood and amaranth on softwood frame, holly and walnut fillets, gilt bronze; Verona red marble
H. 92 cm ; W. 82 cm ; D. 48 cm
Each chest of drawers has a slightly arched front opening to three drawers with visible support rails. The drawers are decorated with rosewood veneer in frieze in amaranth frames bordered with holly and walnut. The ormolu keyholes stand out from a diamond-shaped amaranth. On the sides, the decoration is similar to that of the drawers. A sinuous cut-out gives rhythm to the lower part of each piece of furniture. The chests of drawers rest on four cambered feet trimmed with ormolu foliage. A red marble of Verona tops the whole.
