LACQUER CHEST OF DRAWERS
Louis XV period European lacquer in the Chinese style; Aleppo breccia marble
Stamped
H. 88 cm ; W. 129 cm ; D. 61,5 cm
This lacquered wood chest of drawers, decorated with landscapes and fishing scenes, bears the stamp of Pierre Denizot. It opens to two drawers without a crossbar underlined by an apron cut out in festoon and rests on cambered legs decorated with rocaille falls and gilt bronze sabots. Its decoration is rare in the production of this cabinetmaker.
Pierre Denizot was awarded the title of Master in 1740, but he did not start using his personal stamp until 1760. There is little furniture in Chinese lacquer or varnish in his wife's death inventory in 1771 and in his own in 17821.
