Iran, Achaemenid (533-433 B.C.), and 11th century for the decoration
Concave-edged copper alloy dish (cleaned), engraved and silvered with an interlacing pattern forming a six-pointed star known as the "seal of Solomon" around a central finial. Green patina of oxidation on one side. Three holes of supsension.
Inscriptions in kufic on the marli.

These lissome cups from the Achaemenid period were reused under Muslim rule. The decoration of interlacing is very close to models published by A. S. Melikian Chirvani in "Islamic metalwork from the Iranian world, p. 96.
