ATTRIBUTED TO CHARLES ÉTIENNE GUESLAIN (1685-1765) PORTRAIT OF FRANÇOIS-ARNOULT POISSON DE ROINVILLE (1696-1753) Oval canvas, without frame, bears a piece of canvas on the back of the stretcher: "Poisson / acteur des . i. / taliens Attr. to C. E. Gueslain, Portrait of François-Arnoult Poisson de Roinville (1696-1753), oval canvas, without frame, bears a piece of canvas on the back of the stretcher: "Poisson/acteur . des . i. / aliens" 66,5 x 57 cm - 26,2 x 22,4 in. From a family of actors, François-Arnoult Poisson de Roinville was a boarder at the Comédie française between 1722 and 1725, then a member of the board in 1725. A Portrait of the actor as Crispin, painted by Gueslain in 1737 is kept at the Comédie Française (canvas, 64 x 53 cm). He is represented as Crispin (a character used by his grandfather, taken over by his father and his brother), in a black Spanish suit with a white strawberry.
