PEDRO DE CAMPROBIN PASSANO (ALMAGRO 1605-SEVILLE 1674) RADISH AND GLASS OF WINE ON AN ENTABLEMENT Original canvas, in an old frame Radish and glass of wine on an entablature, original canvas, in an old frame 80,5 x 102,5 cm - 31,7 x 40,4 in. PROVENANCE Granados Collection BIBLIOGRAPHY Catalogue of the exhibition El esplendor del barroco andaluz. Colección Granados, Córdoba, Fondación Caja Sur, 2007-2008, Seville, Hospital de la Caridad, 2008 (curators Javier del Campo and José María Palencia). Better known for his Floreros, Pedro de Camprobin is also the author of several bodegones (kitchen still lifes), in which he arranges the objects in an apparently random but skilful manner: his compositions are a sum of interlocking geometric elements. The modeling, built by a subtle gradation of light, allows him to capture the different textures, the transparency of glass, the velvety texture of fruit and the shine of metal. Our composition can be compared to other comparable paintings by Camprobin in which certain elements can be found, but in a different order: the same glass and peaches in the Basket with Peaches and Plums in the Prado Museum (1654), the same bottle-bottle turned differently in a Still Life formerly in the Raleigh, North Carolina Art Museum, and in a pair signed and dated 1663 in a private collection in London, and later in Switzerland - exhibited at TEFAF 2003, at French - (op. cit. 2008). Professor William B. Jordan confirmed the attribution of our painting to Camprobin in a notice given in 2009 to the owner of the work.
