This hallucinatory scene seems to relate to the visits that DORÉ made in 1869 to London nightclubs, accompanied by a police commissioner and Blanchard JEROLD, with whom he published London, a pilgrimage, in 1872. The drawing was not retained for publication, in which a Bible reader is seen passing in front of a row of bedridden wretches.
