Madame de STAEL (1766-1817) LOT OF HANDWRITTEN PIECES OF WHICH - 1 L.A. FROM MME DE STAEL of Monday, May 2 (1796) to (Cte Adrien de Mun, in Greng by Morat). Quite personal, sprinkled with reflections and a few names (we are under the Directory, Mme de Stael has returned to France, she is an activist and will soon antagonize the young Consul Bonaparte) "Your letters are charming, my dear Adrien, and I find in them that grace that the castles in Spain have developed in my eyes, the finesse of the spirit and the simplicity of the character () it seems to me that far from me you must like what pleases me. () You should have spoken of a real advantage that you have over him, it is that I have perverted you more, and your Jews and your republican smile have won my heart during () the French are going to Turin () I will tell you in Lausanne what will happen to me I know nothing yet and I am bored with my importance; my existence to lead is the most frivolously difficult thing I know; I can't do anything and I am awe-inspiring to the universe..." 3 pp. on a small bifeuillet in-12, small tear without gravity on the 2nd leaf. - The CONTRACT OF HER PUBLISHERS, Treuttel and Wurtz, and Charpentier, for the publication of the "OEuvres posthumes" of the baroness de Stael under the Charpentier format, October 30, 1842, 3 pp. on a small notebook in 4, signed by Charpentier, with stamp (royal stamp) accompanied by 5 pages of drafts on 2 pieces. - An " Ode Sur la mort de Mme de Stael " : Curious little versified manuscript, small in-4, circa 1817, in sheets, 6 pp. with title on cover, some foxing. Handwritten mentions in ink "M. Calvet" and in pencil "M. Jousselin", but these verses, not devoid of charm and sincerity, seem anonymous and unpublished. An extract from the "Magasin Pittoresque" of 1859 with a portrait of Mme de Staël and a small article on "Mme de Staël". Provenance : Saint-Hélion fund, then Madame H's library.
