Jacob van Oost probably undertook his first studies with his brother Fans van Oost, after which he stayed in Italy from 1621 - 1628, and from 1651 held the position of city sign. As can be easily seen in our painting, his work was strongly influenced by Caravaggio, but also by the Flemings Rubens, Anthony van Dyck and Gaspard de Crayer. Mainly his work consists of portraits and religious works. (1340351) (13)
