Cycling/Giffard/Britain/China/Auto. "Microbe, the little Breton". In this novel, Pierre Giffard gives us the benefit of his experience as a great reporter in the four corners of the world, and of his talent... The little hero of Breton origin is thus in turn a cycling champion (memorable Paris-Metz), a car champion (Franco-German match on the crossing of the USA), a luxury sales representative in China. The pseudonyms are transparent, Petit-Breton himself is not very far, but France is always France, Giffard was not for nothing one of the youngest officers of the 1870 war. In short, a beautiful book of adventures, of revenge, where the good guy ends up triumphing. This beautiful publisher's binding (Juven), with its first plate illustrated (auto in China) by William Adolphe Lambrecht (1876-1940), like all the rest of the 222 pages (28x21), you will not let it go. After these "Nights in Manchuria", Giffard is in 1906 in the middle of the Chinese period. This novel will be republished in 1920-25 and 39, but not with the same success, the title having become "Microbe, champion of sports".
