CARTIER Silver bracelet (800 thousandths) formed of a figaro mesh, decorated with enamel "charm's" polychrome depicting Snow White and the seven dwarfs. Work circa 1937 made by the house of Cartier for Walt Disney Productions. Signed "CARTIER" on the Snow White pendant and numbered "4581". L. 17 cm - Gross weight : 19,3 g CS (Slight accidents and breaks in the enamel) This rare bracelet composed of "charm's" featuring Snow White and the seven dwarfs, was made at the request of Walt Disney Productions exclusively by the famous jewelry house Cartier of New York, Paris and London. This bracelet celebrated the premiere of the first animated film on December 21, 1937, based on the German fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. A version of this bracelet was worn by Walt Disney's wife, Lillian, at the premiere at the Carthay Circle Theatre in Los Angeles and is now on display at the Walt Disney Museum. When the film arrived in France on May 6, 1938, the cinema "Le Marignan" in Paris had exclusive rights to the film and its first screening took place there. A complete program was sold with advertisements, including one for the Cartier house bracelet. This piece is the testimony of an unprecedented collaboration between an American firm and a jewelry house to mark a memorable event and illustrates the strength of Walt Disney Productions in merchandising. It also underlines the modernity and audacity of Cartier, which for this occasion moved away from the register of high jewelry to flirt with that of humor. The vogue for charm's at that time dated back to the post-depression years of 1929. During this American crisis, the great jewelry houses imagined these types of charms, less expensive for their customers than elaborate pieces, rich in precious stones. The version presented here will nourish the dreams of those who love the history of the American company Walt Disney and those of collectors of the pieces produced by the no less famous house of Cartier.
