Reclining dog, Eastern Han Dynasty China (206 BC - 220 AD), Gansu, Wuwei district
L. 24 cm. Wood (spruce) polychrome
Lying down in the attitude of a guard dog, the animal shows its fangs and opens its eyes wide, fulfilling its role as guardian and protector of the tomb.
The polychromy of red and black for the head and ochre for the coat is well preserved.
