ULISSE CAPUTO (1872-1948) Seated Tuareg Large oil on canvas signed lower right. Not framed. Size : 80 x 100 cm A painter of landscapes, genre scenes, figures and nudes, he began his artistic studies at the Naples School of Fine Arts and perfected his skills with the master Domenico Morelli between 1890 and 1894, with the exception of 1893 when he joined Gaetano Esposito's studio. In 1900, Caputo came to Paris to try his luck and was very quickly successful. He made his debut at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1901 with "The Widow" and exhibited there regularly with the same success each time. He then exhibited in London, Cairo, Buenos Aires, Milan, Munich, New York and especially at the Venice Biennale in 1907 and 1909 when Victor Emmanuel III bought him "Effect in the night". In 1914, he was invited by the French government and more precisely the Count of Chambrun for a one-year mission to Morocco from where he brought back a series of very successful orientalist works. He also painted beautiful views of Brittany, the South of France and more particularly of Aix-en-Provence, not to mention superb representations of elegant women in the Belle-Epoque. Ulysse Caputo loves colors, uses a quick brush stroke and paints with a bright and joyful palette in an impressionist style. Public collections: "Symphony" property of the Louvre exhibited at the Musée d'Orsay Paris, Grand Palais Paris Fonds Druet-Vizzanova, Musée d'Art de Toulon, Carneggie Foundation Pittsburgh, Museums of Lima and Santiago de Chile.
