French painter, watercolorist, draftsman, engraver and caricaturist born in Rouen, François Clément Sommier, known as Henry Somm, studied at the School of Rouen. He moved to Paris in the 1860's and produced numerous engravings for magazines. In 1879 and 1889, he participated in the Impressionist exhibitions at Durand-Ruel. Somm left a large number of drawings and watercolors of Parisian women captured on the spot in the 1890s.
