Hans Purrmann - Anemone still life. Oil on canvas. (Circa 1930/1935). Approx. 67 x 55,5 cm. Signed lower right. - Splendid flower still life with the color scheme of violet, blue and scarlet so typical of anemones - Immediate expression of the fullness and beauty of life - Still life form an extensive and significant part within the œuvre of Hans Purrmann "It is characteristic of Purrmann that he painted numerous bouquets of flowers. Is there a painter from whom so many have been preserved? The still lifes consist mainly of flowers. Roses, gladioli, cress, calla, anemones, apple blossoms and some others he arranged alone or together first in the vase, then arranged on the table and finally painted. (...) The unfolded blossoms, their manifold nature, their different form and color are a very direct expression of life presenting itself in abundance and beauty. By devoting himself to these bouquets in life as well as in art, Hans Purrmann has prepared small celebrations for himself in each case. They pervade his entire oeuvre and form an important area alongside the other genres." (Christian Lenz, in: Hans Purrmann. Die Gemälde I 1895-1934, Munich 2004, p. 41 f.). Dr. Felix Billeter writes in the confirmation of authenticity: "It is a hitherto unknown still life of anemones by Hans Purrmann, painted around 1930/35, and is comparable in motif, painting style, colorfulness and structure to other works by the painter, such as WV 1924/27, 1932/05 or 1936/13, 1936/17-18; around 1932 he often uses glass vases, cf. WV 1932/04-09." Numbered "488" by another hand on the verso of the stretcher. Not in Lenz/Billeter. With a confirmation of authenticity by Dr. Felix Billeter, Hans Purrmann Archiv, Munich, dated 10.5.2021 (in copy). The work is documented in the archive under no. 1412.
