Lucien BONAPARTE (1775-1840) and Pierre LAFON (1773-1846) L.A.S. addressed by Lucien Bonaparte to Pierre Lafon (real name Pierre Rapenouille), tragedian, 212th member of the Comédie Française, to show him his sympathy after having learned by the newspapers that the actor had been robbed during a performance. 1 sheet of two pages, red wax stamp, located in Madrid, dated 4 thermidor. Bends, marginal tears and pinholes. Attached is an autograph bill from Pierre Lafon explaining the mail from Lucien Bonaparte. "I receive my dear Lafon, your letter of the 10th of prairial and I see with great interest that you deserve by the spirit and by the heart all the attachment I have for you. I have [made] some progress. I regretted not being able to help you more powerfully, but obstacles are made for souls that the desire for perfection sets on fire. The less you play, the more you must [prepare] to play. Accept what I send you: I claim the right to repair the loss that the newspapers have announced to me by testifying to your good conduct at home and your [?] on the stage... no rest until perfection On this wish, I greet you with all affection."
