Bruni, Leonardo - Flying eagle Venice, Pietro Quarengi, 1508. In 2nd. Woodcut drop caps, humidity halos, full leather binding with embossing of the 16th century. XIX. SPECIALIST NOTESRare edition of The Flying Eagle, formerly attributed to the famous humanist L. Bruni and whose authorship remains controversial. Yes it is a great "eagle's eye" compendium, according to Dante's symbology relating to Justinian (Pd. VI), of the history of the world starting from its mythical origins, a reworked version of Guido da Pisa's Fiorita d'Italia. The work is largely built on reprises and quotations from Dante's Divine Comedy, which provides a real textual substrate; the other fundamental literary model is Virgil's Aeneid.
