URBINO, WORKSHOP OF FLAMINIO OR ORAZIO FONTANA (circa 1570)
Rare earthenware wine jug in the form of a satyr shuttle. Rich polychrome decoration of grotesque scrolls on a white background, the grip in the form of a satyr topped with a scroll of acanthus, hands and legs clasped at the back of the jug holding vine branches. The spout is supported by a grotesque mask whose beard in acanthus leaf embraces the body. Oval pedestal with a frieze of ovals.

I de Médicis, Grand Duke of Tuscany, now in the Wallace Collection (N° INV-C107). This refreshment chest is signed by Flaminio Fontana and dated 1574.
