BORDEAU Henri (painter of the XIXth). "The Carabinier officer". Oil on canvas signed and dated lower right "Bordeau, 1847". Dimensions (without frame) : 100 x 82 cm. Restorations on the canvas. Bibliography: The portrait represented is most probably that of Louis Le Bon Desmottes in the uniform of colonel of the Carabinieri regiment. Louis Le Bon Desmottes began his career under the 1st Empire in the Gendarmerie of the Imperial Guard. He participated in the campaigns of Prussia, Spain (in the Chasseurs à Cheval of the Imperial Guard), Russia, and Waterloo. After the Empire, he joined the 1st Cuirassiers regiment of the Royal Guard, then became Colonel of the Carabinieri regiment, then appointed Brigadier General. Knight of the imperial order of the Legion of Honor, officer then commander of the Royal order of the Legion of Honor, Knight of the order of Saint Louis, 2nd class cross of the order of Saint Ferdinand of Spain.
