BIBLIOGRAPHY
Jacques Lanthemann. Modigliani 1844-1920 catalog raisonné, his life, his complete work, his art, Barcelona: 1970, the stone is reproduced under n°633, p. 317
In 1909, after meeting Constantin Brâncusi (1876-1957), Modigliani began to make sculptures by cutting stone, executing about thirty works in his short career as a statuary. The very recognizable style of his elongated, cubic figures echoes the wiry, oval heads in his paintings. Our Head of a Young Girl with Fringe recalls the sacred art of Africa, an inexhaustible source for modern artists such as Picasso, but also demonstrates the artist's knowledge of ancient artifacts from the Cyclades or Mesopotamia.
