From the moment he arrived in Morocco and settled in Marrakech in 1917, Jacques Majorelle was enchanted by the colors, light and charm of the red city.
This adventurer wanted to know more about the history and past of the Moroccan south and its desert cities. Between 1919 and 1921, he undertook many expeditions in the Atlas.
Our painting dated 1921 is one of the first works in the series of kasbahs.
The kasbah of Tinitine, red ochre, drowned in the landscape is like a citadel sheltered from the world. However, two characters dressed in white, overwhelmed by the grandeur of the place climb in search of the freshness and protection of these high walls. The painting is almost monochrome, except for the emerald green bush in the foreground.
