ANA MIRALLES
DJINN
Dargaud
Djinn pulling his stocking, illustration realized in 2020, published in Ana by Daniel Maghen in 2022. Signed. Watercolor and pencil on paper
37.8 × 52.7 cm (14.88 × 20.75 in.)
This is an unusual figure of Jade the djinn. She is reminiscent of Toulouse-Lautrec's Woman Pulling Her Stocking, which is more or less his contemporary, but without the burden of constrained love that the house girls carry. She prepares herself. For a gallant meeting? For an elegant evening, where her red pumps will play their role perfectly? Maybe both. After the social events, she will undress from her classic and deceptively wise dress, appearing for the chosen one of the moment in this saucy and piquant corset, which Chihuahua Pearl would not have disavowed. "The idea for this illustration comes from a silk-screen print made on the occasion of volume 3 of Djinn, The Tattoo," adds Ana Miralles. "I thought it was a very good drawing, so I wanted to revive it a few years later - the silkscreen was out of print - in a more generous format, using a richer color palette.
