BRANCUSI CONSTANTIN (1876-1957). LIZICA CODREANU performing Erik Satie's Gymnopédies in the studio of CONSTANTIN BRANCUSI. A gelatin silver negative on glass plate, circa 1921, dimensions 12 x 9 cm. A photographic print from the negative is attached (circa 1990). Lizica Codreanu (1901-1993) arrived in Paris in the summer of 1919 with her sister Irina Codreanu, who was to become an apprentice sculptor with Brancusi. A familiar face in the studio, Lizica is pictured here dressed in a costume made for her by Brancusi for the performance of the Gymnopédies, in the sculptor's studio at 8 Impasse Ronsin in Paris. Provenance : former collection of Irina Codreanu. Photographic proof of the same series preserved in the Pompidou Center in Paris.
