The principles of philosophy. Fourth edition. Revised & corrected very exactly by Mr. CLR. With figures in the body of the book; And those in intaglio, of the first edition, put at the end of the book.
In Paris, at the Widow Bobin, 1681. In-4 of (29) ff. n. ch., 477-(3) pp + 20 folded plates in fine. Bound in late nineteenth century tan glazed calf, spine decorated, red morocco title page, triple gilt fillet on the boards, red edges.
One of the reprints published after the first French edition of 1647, the translation of Claude Picot is revised by CLR, that is to say by Claude Clerselier. In this copy the engraved frontispiece that normally precedes the title page is mounted at the end of the book before the plates. The illustration also consists of numerous in-text figures and a folded plate.
Joints cracked but solid, a few freckles and yellowed leaves, small light spotting at the very beginning of the book, slight worm work or galloping from page 308 to the end with occasional small damage to the marginalia, the text being spared.
