OBSEQUENS (Julius). Des Prodiges, plus three books by Polydore Vergile on the same subject, translated from Latin into French by George de La Bouthière autunois. Lyon, J. de Tournes, 1555. In-12 (105 mm x 165 mm) of (8) ff. n. ch., 292 pp, (6) ff. 18th calf binding, smooth spine decorated. Framed title, typographical mark at the end. - Woodcuts in the text by the Lyon-based engraver and designer Bernard Salomon after P. Sharratt. First edition of the first French translation by George de La Bouthière of this collection of legends and prodigious facts, the only surviving work by the fourth-century Roman writer Julius Obsequens. Spine rubbed, missing at the upper spine, spine ends split, spotting over much of the work, head margins a little short.
