The original edition was published in Granada in 1573. First French edition, dedicated to the king. The author was imprisoned by the Moors for eight years, following Charles V's expedition to North Africa, and learned the Arabic language and culture during this period. He describes Africa according to Arab sources as well as contemporary authors. Contains a general map of Africa as well as maps of Arabia, Persia, Palestine, Syria, Mesopotamia, Hungary, Turkey, France, Italy and Spain. Ex-libris ms. ''Duc de Valentinois, Bibliothèque de Passy.'' It is about Jacques de Goyon, count of Matignon (1689-1751), sovereign prince of Monaco under the name of Jacques I. Great collector, he had acquired a house in Passy in 1736 to store his paintings, his medals, his sculptures, etc... and his books.
